Touted as “the UK’s first major Cartier exhibition in nearly three decades,” the showcase promises an in-depth exploration of how the maison revolutionized jewellery and watchmaking to become an enduring cultural icon.
Exhibition Highlights
The display will feature some of Cartier’s most celebrated creations, including:
-
The Williamson Diamond Brooch (1953): Commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II and set with the rare 23.6-carat pink Williamson diamond.
-
The Scroll Tiara (1902): Originally commissioned for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, later reimagined in popular culture when worn by Rihanna on the cover of W Magazine in 2016.
-
Grace Kelly’s Engagement Ring (1956): A dazzling piece from the Monaco Princely Palace Collection, famously worn by the actress in her final film, High Society.
Helen Molesworth, the exhibition’s curator, shared her excitement: “Cartier is one of the most celebrated jewellery houses globally. With its unparalleled collection, the V&A is an ideal venue to honor Cartier’s pioneering creativity and its influence on art, culture, and fashion for over a century.”
The Cartier Legacy
Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, the maison earned the title “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers” by crafting bespoke pieces for royalty and high society. In later years, Cartier expanded its reach, becoming a favorite among artists, musicians, and fashion icons.
The Cartier exhibition will run at V&A South Kensington from 12 April 2025 to 16 November 2025, offering visitors a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the timeless brilliance of Cartier’s masterpieces.
