An emerald brooch sold for almost three times its upper price, bringing in CHF 132,000 ($149,849) at a recent jewelry sale at Sotheby’s in Geneva.
The piece, which contains a Colombian sugarloaf cabochon emerald weighing 38.42 carats and princess-cut diamonds, went on the block at the November 1 to 15 Important Jewels sale, the auction house said Tuesday. In total, the event raked in CHF 5.5 million ($6.2 million).
The auction also featured pieces from famed jewelers including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Bulgari, as well as a private collection of archeological and renaissance revival jewels from the 19th century.
