The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) and Angola have solidified their trade relationship with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This milestone agreement aims to boost the flow of Angolan rough diamonds to Antwerp, while also fostering knowledge exchange on establishing a G7 export verification point in Angola.
Angola, the world’s third-largest producer of rough diamonds, is renowned for its high-quality stones. “Antwerp offers unparalleled advantages for diamond trade, including proximity to major jewelry brands, a transparent market, and a vast network of buyers,” said AWDC Chairman Isidore Morsel. The partnership underscores the commitment of both parties to promote Angolan diamonds in Antwerp, further strengthening trade ties.
The MoU also paves the way for Angola to explore technical guidance from AWDC regarding G7 compliance standards. AWDC CEO Karen Rentmeesters expressed willingness to share Antwerp’s expertise in diamond control and certification, mirroring its collaboration with Botswana.
Signed by AWDC and Angola’s state-owned Endiama and SODIAM, the agreement was concluded during a working visit after FACETS 2024, an international diamond conference organized by AWDC. The collaboration signals a promising future for both Antwerp and Angola in the global diamond trade.
