This agreement also extends Debswana’s mining licenses beyond 2029, in line with the Heads of Terms established on 30th September 2023.
Debswana operates several key diamond mines in Botswana, including Jwaneng, Orapa, Letlhakane, and Damtshaa. The new deal will oversee the sales of rough diamonds extracted from these mines.
The agreement is subject to approval by Botswana’s regulatory authorities and the finalisation of new mining licenses. Until the new terms are formally concluded and signed, the existing agreements will continue to apply.
Both parties reaffirmed their decades-long collaboration, which has lasted over 50 years, underscoring their shared commitment to responsible mining, marketing, and the sale of diamonds. They highlighted their ongoing dedication to maintaining a sustainable and ethical global diamond industry, while focusing on maximising the economic and social benefits of diamond mining in Botswana. Their partnership aims to ensure a prosperous diamond sector that supports the country’s economic growth and the well-being of its people.
