The 6,225-carat (1.22kg) rough emerald, named ‘Insofu’—meaning “elephant” in the local Bemba language—was acquired by Chopard from Gemfields in 2018 for an undisclosed amount.
Since its discovery, ‘Insofu’ has yielded 850 carats of gem-quality emeralds, which now take centre stage in a dazzling 15-piece collection. The ensemble includes necklaces, chokers, rings, earrings, a bracelet, and a watch, each showcasing the remarkable green gems.
Among the standout pieces is an elephant-shaped pendant adorned with 50 carats of emeralds and diamond tusks, designed to be worn as either a pendant or a brooch. Another highlight is a 4-in-1 Great Gatsby-inspired necklace featuring a 15.53-carat octagonal emerald, along with a diamond choker set with a 2.50-carat square-cut emerald.
The ‘Insofu’ emerald was originally unearthed by London-based Gemfields at the Kagem mine in Zambia. At the time of its discovery, then-Gemfields CEO Ian Harebottle described it as a unique find, noting its vibrant colour, good translucency, and the potential to yield several significant cut gems despite its protective biotite shell.
With this extraordinary collection, Chopard continues to showcase its mastery in transforming nature’s rarest treasures into breathtaking works of art.
