Lucapa Diamond Company has appointed Alex Kidman, current group operations manager, as its new managing director and CEO, effective immediately.
The news follows the resignation of Nick Selby, who will depart as CEO due to health concerns just over a year after taking up the position. Selby, who has been with the company for over a decade in various roles, will remain involved in a technical capacity to support his successor during the transition, the company said Thursday.
“It is with deep regret that I step back from the role of CEO of this great company,” said Selby. “However, I know that Alex will successfully lead the team and the company into the next phase of its future while delivering huge value for shareholders.”
The company is on the brink of delivering on the long-awaited kimberlite motherload at its Lulo mine in Angola, as well as bringing Australia’s Merlin mine to full production, Selby added.
