The Tùsaire Collection: A Tribute to Innovation and Heritage
Named Tùsaire (Scottish Gaelic for Pioneer), the 30-piece collection is a stunning display of innovation and craftsmanship. It includes an array of statement platinum and titanium Torc necklaces with interchangeable elements, cuffs, rings, and earrings. Designed to push the boundaries of decorative, structural, and scale possibilities in 3D-printed platinum, the collection redefines modern jewellery.
Maeve Gillies masterfully merges ancient Celtic inspiration with a forward-thinking approach. Her designs incorporate ultralight, hollow Torc necklaces and cuffs featuring intricate Celtic patterns. These pieces intertwine platinum and titanium in bold, contemporary silhouettes, showcasing contrasting layers of unpolished, native 3D-printed platinum against high-polished surfaces—marking a pivotal moment in technological advancement.
A Story of Nature and the Future of Platinum
Each piece in the collection carries a deep connection to Scotland’s natural beauty and an optimistic vision for the future. The designs draw from The Lost Jewels of Caledonia, an imagined Celtic wonder tale where each character plays a vital role in a thriving collective. Seven pieces feature rare, one-of-a-kind Scottish rocks, encased within the durability and strength of platinum. The centrepiece, a striking Torc necklace set with Scottish Renfrewshire quartz, is inspired by ancient Celtic artifacts yet reimagined through modern 3D-printing technology to enhance lightness, wearability, and contemporary appeal.
“This exciting new technology, along with the incredible support of my technical collaborators, has allowed me to bring my vision for platinum jewellery to life,” says Maeve Gillies. “Seeing my Celtic-inspired designs realized in full precious metal through 3D printing is truly magical.”
Industry Leaders Praise the Innovation
Tai Wong, Global Director of Innovation at Platinum Guild International (PGI), played a key role in the project’s development. “We wanted to rigorously test 3D printing in platinum to explore its advantages and challenges. This technology is set to transform the jewellery industry, unlocking unprecedented design possibilities,” Wong stated.
