An 8-carat diamond ring was the top seller at a recent jewelry sale at Sotheby’s in New York, garnering $336,000.
The price the cushion-cut, D-color, internally flawless diamond ring achieved fell within the upper end of its $250,000 to $350,000 presale estimate at the Important Jewels sale, which ran from September 6 to 20. In total, the auction realized $4.8 million, according to Sotheby’s.
Meanwhile, an unmounted emerald-cut, 18.91-carat Colombian emerald sold for $288,000, as did a pair of Van Cleef & Arpels ear clips that featured clusters of marquise-shaped, round and baguette diamonds suspending detachable drops bearing mystery-set rubies. Both were within their presale price ranges.
Other notable items included a ring with an emerald-cut, 10.59-carat, H-color, VVS2-clarity diamond center stone flanked by triangular-shaped diamonds, which fetched $240,000, within estimates. A heart-shaped, 16.24-carat, fancy-yellow, VS1-clarity diamond ring nabbed $180,000, hitting its upper price, and a ring with a round, 6.04-carat, E-color, VS2-clarity diamond brought in $156,000. That total exceeded its presale estimate of $100,000 to $150,000.
