Sotheby’s will hold an auction of 51 watches featuring futuristic designs and materials that will take place in front of what appears to be a crash-landed flying saucer.
The sale, called Area 51, is the follow-up to last year’s Rough Diamonds sale, which occurred underground in a subterranean room, Sotheby’s said Tuesday. The three-day event will begin with an exhibition on April 1, followed by an evening reception on April 2 and a live auction on April 3. The auction house will display the watches in a custom-built alien research center in Geneva.
Sotheby’s will feature timepieces from well-known watch designers, including Patek Philippe, Rolex, and Audemars Piguet, as well as two unique pieces by Furian Marri and Toledano & Chan, which they created for the auction.
