The survey reveals that 30% of shoppers aged 18-24 plan to gift jewellery, the highest percentage among all age groups. While traditional categories like clothing and toys continue to dominate holiday gift lists, the increasing interest in jewellery among younger consumers underscores their growing influence on retail trends.
This tech-savvy demographic is turning to social media platforms for gift inspiration, with TikTok and Instagram leading the way. According to the survey, 28% of shoppers aged 18-24 find inspiration on TikTok, while 27% turn to Instagram.
“Younger shoppers continue to embrace social media for gift ideas, with those between the ages of 18-24 more likely to find inspiration through platforms such as TikTok and Instagram,” said Phil Rist, Executive Vice President of Strategy at Prosper Insights & Analytics. “These shoppers are also more likely than any other age group to purchase jewellery, reflecting a shift in gifting preferences.”
Overall, the survey predicts a record-breaking holiday shopping season, with total spending expected to reach between $979.5 billion and $989 billion. While online searches remain the top source of gift inspiration for most shoppers (44%), the surge in jewellery interest highlights the influence of younger generations in shaping holiday retail trends.
